CohBar Founder Dr. Nir Barzilai’s New Book “AGE LATER” Reveals that Aging Can Be Seen as a Preventable Disease

MENLO PARK, Calif., June 17, 2020 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- CohBar, Inc. (NASDAQ: CWBR), a clinical stage biotechnology company developing mitochondria based therapeutics to treat chronic diseases and extend healthy lifespan, today announced the publication of “AGE LATER: Health Span, Life Span, and the New Science of Longevity,” authored by CohBar founder Nir Barzilai, M.D. Dr. Barzilai is the Founding Director of the Institute for Aging Research at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and Scientific Director of the American Federation for Aging Research (AFAR). His studies on SuperAgers, a group of 750 centenarians, has shown that we can reframe aging as a phenomenon that can be treated like other diseases. These individuals maintain active lives well into their nineties and most do not experience the chronic diseases typically associated with aging. In his new book, Dr. Barzilai shares his quest to increase health span and life span.

“Dr. Barzilai’s groundbreaking work is part of the antidote to the myths and confusion about longevity and what it takes to have a healthy lifespan,” stated Steven Engle, CohBar’s CEO. “Based on his decades of work, he has re-written the medical books and has provided pointers to living a healthier life. Nir and his team have discovered ways to help mimic the longer-term health of the SuperAgers, even if we do not have their genetic makeup. In addition, as one of CohBar’s founders along with Dr. Hassy Cohen, Dr. David Sinclair and Dr. John Amatruda, Nir has been a key scientist in the discovery of mitochondrial peptide science, which we are using at CohBar to generate therapeutic candidates. CohBar’s birth is chronicled in AGE LATER.”

Dr. Barzilai is regarded as being one of the foremost authorities in the science of aging. He is a sought-after speaker on longevity and an advisor to physicians, researchers, and governments around the world.

About CohBar

CohBar (NASDAQ: CWBR) is a clinical stage biotechnology company focused on the research and development of mitochondria based therapeutics, an emerging class of drugs for the treatment of chronic and age-related diseases. Mitochondria based therapeutics originate from the discovery by CohBar’s founders of a novel group of naturally occurring mitochondrial-derived peptides within the mitochondrial genome that regulate metabolism and cell death, and whose biological activity declines with age. To date, the company has discovered more than 100 mitochondrial derived peptides and generated over 1,000 analogs. CohBar’s efforts focus on the development of these peptides into therapeutics that offer the potential to address a broad range of diseases, including nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), obesity, fibrotic diseases, cancer, acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), type 2 diabetes, and cardiovascular and neurodegenerative diseases. The company’s lead compound, CB4211, is in the Phase 1b stage of a Phase 1a/1b clinical trial for NASH and obesity.  This clinical trial is currently paused due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition, CohBar has four preclinical programs, two in cancer, one in fibrotic diseases and one in COVID-19 associated ARDS and type 2 diabetes.
